St. Grace Hospice Volunteers contribute to various aspects of the hospice program as:

The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. The aim of our volunteer program is to promote the celebration of life’s precious moments. We are a team of dynamic individuals looking to improve the quality of the lives of our patients and families. The simple gift of time and empathy truly does affect our patients and families. Hospice volunteering can be a life-enriching experience.

St. Grace Hospice Volunteers contribute to various aspects of the hospice program as:

Patient and Family Volunteers

  • Making friendly visits to help ease the problems of social isolation and offer a trained and emphatic ear
  • Assisting with homemaking tasks
  • Providing respite care
  • Helping with patient/family errands

Bereavement Care Volunteers

  • Making scheduled phone calls to the bereaved family/friends
  • Conducting visits to the bereaved family/friends
  • Assisting the Bereavement Coordinator with memorial services, bereavement groups and bereavement-related gatherings

Office Services Volunteers

  • Assisting with clerical office work as needed (e.g. filing, answering phones)
  • Assisting with computer work (e.g. document and spreadsheet creation)
  • Data entry and gathering for volunteer activity tracking
  • Assisting with hospice mailings

Community Outreach/Speakers Bureau Volunteers

  • Coordinating speaking engagements to promote hospice awareness and the hospice volunteer program
  • Creating well organized and informed presentations
  • Assisting to develop media to market hospice care program to the community
  • Attending community functions to network and build relations between the hospice and the community
